  The monument sits on top of the large mound containing those killed that day.

Samuel was son of TIMOTHY  and grandson of RICHARD MATHER, minister of Toxysth, Eng. and Dorchester,Mass.............
Samuel was a minister at Windsor,Conn 1682-1728..........after 
Bloody Brook" massacre (1675), the town was destroyed (this town is now South Deerfield ) and the church scattered......at the request of the survivors, he waited 4 years, when there being no prospects of the re-settlement, he accepted the call from another church.
