Cyndy  > History > Connecticut > HARTFORD: Center Church Burying Ground
The original burying ground of the settlers cannot be found so the next best thing is the oldest surviving burial ground.
There are NO stones PRIOR 1709

Cyndy > This marker was at the front (north) entrance....it is a
monument to the Black African Americans from 1640-1810, that was done by the Hartford school children.
In front of this was a huge plaque lying flat on the ground with
at least 100 persons.........the reason I use the term "persons"
is because many had no name and were listed as :
"child"..."servant"....."Maid"...etc. with their dates of birth and death or just date of death. I tried fitting the plaque into the frame of the camera but there was just no way I could and still be able to read it.
Cyndy > This was postioned on the eastern side entrance...

The Colony of Connecticut had a consitution from 1639 - 1789 and when the US Consitution was written many of the principles of the Connecticut Constitution was used in the new
US Consitution,1789.
-------------------
"John Haynes was one of the 3 framers of the first consitution creating a government upon which based the principles of American Consitution Liberty. " (anyone know who the other men are ?)
Cyndy > 1595 to 1654

In memory of John Haynes, first governor of the Colony of
Connecticut.
Cyndy > Over view of the Center Church Cemetery in Hartford.
The cemetery is surrounded by new buildings with floors
high above the graves.
