In 1660 the General Court recieved a petition of "severall members of this Collony presenting their desires unto this Court of settling a plantation at 30 Mile Island", where upon
a committee to view the land was appointed and reported back favorably. Thereafter, in 1662, two women, Sepunnemoe and Towklshk, with Turramuggus,Unlaus, and others of the Wangunk Indian Tribe, sold land (Haddam) to agents of the Colony of Connecticut.
On Oct.8,1668, the town was incorporated by this act: "the court orders that the plantation of Thirty Mile Island shall...be called Haddum, and this Court granats them the power and priulledg (sic) of a Plantation". In te following year, the General Court granted "..that the bownds (sic) of Haddum shall run from the "great river" (Connecticut River) westward into the wilderness six miles and from the great River eastward into the wilderness six miles" .
