Samuel Pinney, first settler of Elllington; oldest son of Humphrey who sailed from Plymouth,England, March 30,1630 in the "Mary and John" . ( Humphrey was son of John of Somersetshire,Eng. H. settled at Dorchester, 1630, removed
to Windsor,Conn,1635.)
John arrived in Dorchester,Mass.,June 1630 and married Mary Hull, a passenger.
Samuel b. in Dorchester,1632, he moved to Windsor,Conn., with his parents in 1635, removed to Simsbury,Conn in 1667, left when Simsbury was burned by the indians 1676. He engaged in surveying lands in Ellington. He purchased 1000
acres, built the first log cabin and settled here in 1717.
Part of this land still remains in the hands of the Pinney family.
