the land in foreground once was water...and known as Puddle Dock

Cyndy > Here is another ancestor of my hubby's.....the JACKSONS of
Portsmouth,NH.......the house is not in Strawbery Banke but is in Portsmouth. Richard-1 Jackson's daughter married into the Sherburne family.

Nathaniel Jackson, a mariner and cordwainer built a house near Puddle Dock in the late 17th century, as did his neighbors the Sherburnes. To take advantage of the commerical development, the house "disappeared" in the mid18th century.
Nathaniel's son,Joshua, 22, inherited the house and land at Puddle Dock where he was a blacksmith,1717-1758.
The picture of the house is the Richard Jackson House located on what was Christian Shore about 1 mile north of Strawbery Banke and it is owned by the SPENA. (I will include the picture of the house elsewhere)

Cyndy > Looking east......you see the grassy lawn.....which once was the Puddle Dock of Strawbery Banke. If you look closely to the background w-a-y- in back, you can see the water and see the garden picture # 1 . This garden is behind the white fence shown in the background here.

Cyndy > The brown house in the center is the SHERBURNE
HOUSE, first part 1695 and the addition in 1703. This house
belonged to my husband's maternal line--Sherburne.
The house on the left is LOWD House(1820) and the one on the right of Sherburne House is the Shapely-Drisco House(1790)
The following pictures show a time-line , changes in the house during during restoration. The land you see in front
of these 3 houses was actually what was called "Puddle Dock"
that's right , water.

Cyndy > Close up of the Sherburne House....the flags on the house represent the era of the house....the Sherburne house was built when we were under British Rule, 1695 and 1703.
the house next door....Shapley-Driscoll House, 1790, no longer a British Colony.
